Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 20th September 2024

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

We are delighted by the progress that our children continue to make. Walking around the school, there is much to marvel over and celebrate.

On our travels around the school this week, we have been particularly captivated by the quality of art learning. Year 6 have been learning about how to best capture light, tone and depth. They have applied what they have learnt so far to create mini still-life sketches of fruit. Year 4 have been learning about the artist Stephen Wiltshire. They have used varying grades of pencil to create their own cityscapes inspired by his work. Year 2 have been learning about the artist James Rizzi and have been creating images inspired by his work. The children are very proud of their creations and rightly so as it is clear that they have really listened and looked intently in lessons - Well done!

Art Across the School

Moving out of the classroom and onto the playground, it is fabulous to see the collaboration, sharing and creativity that is happening. It is also wonderful to see the kindness and support that our children show each other. In the dinner hall, the youngest of our children appear totally at ease with our dinnertime routines. It is lovely to see how far some have come with their table manners and cutlery use. It is also wonderful to see how our older children look out for and help the younger ones - Well done!

This week, in assembly, the focus has been on making people smile by saying please and thank you and credit to the children, we have really noticed them using these words around the school. Please praise and encourage the use of these words at home as it would be a better World if all people took the time to show their appreciation with these simple words.

On Monday, we have the excitement of announcing which students have been elected as School Council Representatives. We look forward to updating you on the outcomes.

Have a lovely week everyone.

Best wishes,

Angela Carpenter
