Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 23rd January, 2026

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

This week, our school has been filled with an extra sense of excitement and joy as we prepare for today’s O2 Young Voices Concert. I could not be prouder of our school choir, whose enthusiasm, commitment and sheer love of singing have been a delight to witness.

Over recent weeks, the progress the choir has made has been truly remarkable. Learning such a wide repertoire of songs takes dedication, resilience and teamwork, and our pupils have risen to the challenge with smiles on their faces and music in their hearts. When they sing, their happiness is unmistakable — and even more wonderfully, they bring happiness to everyone who hears them. The choir is a powerful example of what it truly means to work harmoniously together: every voice matters, each part supports the other, and it is only by listening to one another that something so beautiful can be created. Seeing and hearing them perform is a joy that reminds us just how powerful collaboration can be.

I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs Whitaker, whose passion, expertise and tireless commitment have made both the choir and this incredible opportunity possible. We are so fortunate to have her leading our young singers. I have also been absolutely delighted to be able to support and accompany the choir alongside Mrs Whitaker — a privilege I shall enjoy.

For parents and families who are unable to attend today’s concert, please be reassured that there will be another opportunity to hear our choir perform locally in due course. We look forward to sharing that information with you soon so that everyone has the chance to experience their talent and enthusiasm.

Alongside these musical achievements, we continue to hold deep admiration for the way our students are approaching the assessment tests taking place this week. Many pupils are doing so with impressive spirit, determination and autonomy, embracing the challenge with confidence and a positive mindset. Their willingness to persevere, take responsibility for their learning and belief in themselves is something we are incredibly proud of and reflects our school values in action.

Again this week, we were also delighted to present awards to students who have shown exceptional determination in returning to school following a period of absence. Through their resilience and commitment, these pupils have improved their attendance more than anyone else in the school, and their efforts truly deserve recognition. Each of these students received a Golden Ticket in celebration of their achievement.

Today, 12 Golden Tickets were drawn6 from the lower school and 6 from the upper school. I am very much looking forward to sitting down with our winning students for a special tea party, where we can celebrate their success together and recognise the hard work and determination that brought them there.

I am also incredibly proud of the work being done by our Student Council. They have recently begun using a new app called Smart School Councils, which enables every class to take part in the democratic process in a meaningful and engaging way. Each week, the Student Council poses questions for all classes to discuss and debate before voting on their preferred responses. These results then directly inform the Council’s next steps — giving our pupils a genuine voice in school life.

As a result of this week’s meetings, the Student Council has decided to create a video about mobile phone safety. Once completed, we look forward to sharing this important resource with our wider school community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Moments like these — filled with music, pupil voice, perseverance and shared pride — are what make our school such a special place.

Warmest wishes,
