Weekly Bulletin: Friday 24th January 2025
Dear Parents, Carers & Families,
Our year 4 pupils have been learning about colour mixing and painting techniques. We were very impressed with their knowledge of washes, wet-on-wet, dry brush and splatter techniques. Last term, our year 4 students learnt about the artist Stephen Wiltshire. He is renowned for his pencil and ink cityscapes. Here is a selection of the students’ resulting work. They have put their learning to amazing use. Well done!
Year 4's Amazing Art
Week on week, we will continue to share the learning experiences of other year groups.
In assembly this week, we considered what harmony is and whilst our differences are precious, it is our commonalities that enable us to empathise and work together. We examined the behaviours exhibited in the Parable of the Good Samaritan and through doing so realised that it was the Samaritan’s empathy and humanity that led him to save someone who because of differences in faith and origin was not regarded as a friend. Please talk about these ideas at home. You can revisit the story by clicking HERE.
The Student Council met this week. They went through the results of a survey that they helped to create. The survey was used to collect all of our children’s ideas. The Student Council Reps subsequently collated a number of name suggestions for the recently refurbished quad. The quad is to be used as an outdoor learning area and calm space for eating at lunchtime. It is a semi-covered garden area so it can be used all year round. It was agreed that the children would now be able to vote on their preferred name. In addition, it was suggested that members of the Student Council lead their own assembly as they wanted to encourage everyone to have ownership and look after our school spaces including this one - Thank you to the Student Council for your work on this and thank you to the PTA who purchased seating for the quad!
The Power of Reading
“From babies to children in their early years and all the way through to early teens, reading brings profound and wide-ranging benefits that can have a lifelong positive impact on children’s lives.” Book Trust
Please ensure that you are encouraging your child to look at books and read everyday. Please click HERE to access tips for reading with your child at home. If you need any guidance or support with home reading, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Best wishes,

Attendance
The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.
Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.
Below, you can see this week's attendance data. The stars indicate the year groups who were awarded 5 minutes extra Green Time for topping everyone else's attendance:
