Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 4th July 2025

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

It was fabulous to see our students come together and participate in our sports’ day events this week and also to see so many of you come to offer your support. It was fortunate that we were able to dodge both the hottest and wet parts of the days and subsequently all students were able to enjoy a range of sporting activities. All students collaborated well within their teams and behaved amazingly throughout. Well done to you all! Well done also to our kind year 6 pupils who gave their time to assist the younger children, modelling and explaining what to do. We are so very proud of you and marvel at your maturity! Thank you to Miss Leal and the team for organising these sports’ events and for making so many happy memories!

If you were not able to visit the Aletheia Academies Trust's Belonging Art Exhibition, you are in for a treat. Below is a selection of images that capture Whitehill's creative contributions. Well done to all of our students for your magnificent work!

Week on week, we will continue to share the learning experiences of our students.

In our Values Assembly this week, we have been thinking about growing older, trying new things and change. We considered how embracing new experiences can lead to feelings of accomplishment,  fulfilment and learning. The children recollected changes that they had been through and the feelings that came with change. In doing so, they realised that there are many times in their lives when doing something new has resulted in positive outcomes. You can support your child or children with this learning by discussing plans for the next academic year, listening to any apprehensions they may have and helping them to focus on this change positively.

This week, you will have received notification of class and teacher allocations for September. In school, Miss Haddaway, Mrs Hartup, the Leadership Team and the wider teaching staff have been doing some transition work with the children. Our Year 6’s have been visiting or have been visited by their new  Secondary teachers.

On the afternoon of Tuesday 8th July, our remaining children will be meeting with their new Class Teachers. They will spend time in their new classrooms completing fun ice-breaker and transitional activities. The students are soon to receive an introductory letter from their new teachers. Please take the time to go through this with your child or children. If you have any concerns regarding the transition process, please speak to a member of the team - we will be happy to help.

Whilst we are mentioning changes, you may have noticed in our recent correspondence that we have some new people joining the team. We are delighted to welcome Mrs Abnett to our Early Years Teaching Team, Mrs Richardson to our Lower Key Stage Teaching Team, Mr Debnam and Mr Joyce to our Upper Key Stage Teaching Team. Welcome also to Mrs Dunn. We are very pleased to have Mrs Dunn join us as Deputy Headteacher.

Sadly, we are saying goodbye to Miss Turk, Miss King, Miss Hayes, Miss Adams, Mr Morgan, Miss Wyatt and Mrs Vaughan. Thank you for your services to the school. We wish you well with your future plans!

We are in the process of reviewing the school’s policies regarding Primary aged students’ mobile phone use. We are looking to seek your thoughts. Please click HERE and share your views.

Please note that we have an Aletheia Academies Trust Staff Development Day and that the school is closed to children this Monday 7th July. We look forward to seeing the children back in school on Tuesday 8th July.

Have a great weekend.

Attendance

The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.

Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.

This week, the class with the best attendance is Turquoise Class. Well done Turquoise Class! Keep up the good work!
