Weekly Bulletin: Friday 8th November 2024
Dear Parents, Carers & Families,
This term has got off to a positive start with the children quickly settled and happily engaged in a range of learning activities.
Year 5 were a credit to the school with the work that they have been doing to support a local community charity who works to conserve and protect the environment along the pathways of the canal at Higham. The children helped to clear the overgrown pathways, burn the debris, create bug hotels and plant daffodils along the towpath. The children were complimented for their exemplary behaviour and hard work - well done!

In values’ assembly this week we discussed memories and how our actions and values can lead to a range of memories. We mentioned that November was a key time to remember a number of significant events. The children named Diwali, Bonfire Night and Remembrance as important events that some choose to remember. We were very impressed by the children’s knowledge of Guy Fawkes and Remembrance. Children as young as 6 years of age could recall how on November 5th Guy Fawkes wanted to blow up King James 1st. The children knew how this event was the beginnings of Bonfire Night. The children were also very aware of the impact of war and why Diwali is celebrated - Well done!
We talked about trying to make sure that our actions and values lead to happy memories and the children identified memories that they would try to make this week in and out of school. Amongst these actions, we reminded the children of those that keep us safe when enjoying fireworks. The children were very knowledgeable of this - Well done again!
This week we sent out another letter to try and stimulate some interest in being a Parent Governor. If you are actively interested in supporting the improvement and development of the school, then please consider applying as your input as a Parent Governor would be most welcome. If you would like to know more about the role, please ask a member of staff as they would be happy to help. If you are interested in applying, please click HERE.
Thank you to the PTA who have kindly offered to pay for the whole school to experience the delights of a pantomime! Two sessions - One for upper and one for lower school have been booked for early next year. If you are interested in supporting or joining the PTA, please click HERE .
Please be reminded that we have the school photographer visiting next week. Individual photos will be taken on Tuesday 12th November. On Thursday 14th November, photographs will be taken with siblings. Please speak to the office if you have any queries about this.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Best wishes,

Attendance
The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.
Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.
Below, you can see this week's attendance data. The stars indicate the year groups who were awarded 5 minutes extra Green Time for topping everyone else's attendance:
