Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 14th February 2025

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

Our Reception children’s week launched off with some exciting learning with the children making air propelled rockets. It was a joy to watch the children count down from 10 and blast their rockets into space! The Reception children were keen to show off their colourful rocket designs and also to show us their very own rocket themed role play area. Thank you for making us welcome and well done for your magnificent rocket creations!

Week on week, we will continue to share the learning experiences of other year groups.

Whitehill STEAM Event

It was lovely to see so many of our Whitehill families at Wednesday’s STEAM Event. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. This event was an opportunity for our community to come together and learn about the children’s STEAM learning. In addition to being able to view  some of the children’s STEAM work, there was the opportunity to do some ‘hands on learning.’ Thank you to our amazing children for their contributions. It is clear that we have talented future scientists, engineers, designers and mathematicians! Thank you staff for supporting this event and thank you to those families who took the time to attend!

STEAM Competition Winners

Today, in assembly, we announced the winners of our STEAM competition. This competition required students to come up with a clever invention which repurposes rubbish. Below you can see the two winning designs. There were lots of creative designs which made judging extremely challenging. Well done to our winners and all who entered!

Poster Competition

We had many students enter our poster design competition. This competition challenged our pupils to create an eye-catching poster; encouraging people to walk to school OR encouraging people to be more considerate on the roads; making it safer and more appealing walking to school. Again, we had some really super entries. Below you can see the two winning designs. Well done to our winners and all who entered!

We are still looking for parents and carers to join our parent/carer/school consultation group. The remit of the group is to work together and develop strategies that improve our students’ well-being, learning, and chances of successful futures. This group would meet the first Monday of each term within the school day (14:30 to 15:30). If you are interested and  able to commit your time on a regular basis, please click HERE and complete an Expression of Interest Form.

Attendance

The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.

Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.

Below, you can see this week's attendance data. The stars indicate the year groups who were awarded 5 minutes extra Green Time for topping everyone else's attendance:
