Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Thursday 2nd April 2026

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

This week has been a wonderful reflection of our commitment to providing rich experiences that support both the academic and personal development of every child.

As part of our ongoing focus on curriculum enrichment and personal development, pupils across the school have been exploring the theme of “Our Planet”, thinking carefully about the vulnerability of ecosystems and how we can all play a role in protecting them. A particular highlight has been the work taking place in our Oasis Garden, where pupils have been actively involved in planting and learning about how to support wildlife while also growing food.

Each year group has contributed in a meaningful way:

  • Year 6 have been planting to attract bees
  • Year 5 have focused on butterflies and other insects
  • Year 4 have been learning about wildlife ponds and have begun creating their own
  • Year 3 have explored companion planting and have sown companion seeds
  • Year 2 and Year 1 have been planting fruit and vegetables
  • Our Early Years pupils have planted sunflower seeds to attract birds

We are very much looking forward to nurturing these seedlings, watching them grow and develop, and using this space as a valuable learning environment over the coming months. In time, we also hope to invite parents, carers and families in to see the garden and share in the children’s achievements.

Reception Church Visit

Our Reception pupils represented the school beautifully during their visit to the local church this week. Their behaviour, curiosity and engagement were exemplary, and it was fantastic to hear how much they had learnt about Easter upon their return—they were incredibly well informed. The excitement continued for Reception, who also had the opportunity to take part in balance biking, building confidence and coordination. My sincere thanks go to our Early Years team for organising these valuable experiences.

Similarly, our Year 2 pupils are to be commended for their excellent behaviour during their visit to Gravesend Grammar School, where they explored microhabitats using the Ecosite. These opportunities are so important in bringing learning to life. Thank you to the parents who supported both the church and Ecosite visits, and to our staff for making these trips possible.

All of our Key Stage 2 pupils have had the opportunity this term to take part in the Aletheia Academies Trust Speaking Competition. This week, those selected as class winners were presented with certificates and invited to attend an oracy workshop at Holy Trinity Primary School. After the Easter break, these pupils will present their speeches to a panel of judges here in school, with the overall winner receiving a prize of either a visit to the Houses of Parliament or a Thames Cruise. Later in the year, school winners will go on to represent us at Trust level, competing for the overall trophy. We are incredibly proud of all pupils who have taken part.

It was also fabulous to see so many of our pupils participate in the PTA’s Easter Bonnet event. The vibrancy, creativity and cleverness of the designs were a real triumph—every child looked wonderfully festive and incredibly smart. A huge thank you to our PTA for organising such a joyful event and for providing every child with a small Easter treat.

The PTA are always looking for additional support and new members. If you are interested in getting involved, please do get in touch with them via email at: whitehillprimarypta@gmail.com. Your support makes a real difference to the opportunities we can provide for the children.

Finally, all of our children enjoyed a real treat on Thursday afternoon when storyteller Mike Dodsworth visited the school. He worked with pupils across all year groups, bringing stories to life in an engaging and memorable way, and inspiring a love of storytelling and imagination.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. It is a privilege to see our children thrive through such rich and varied opportunities.

Wishing you all a happy and safe Easter Holiday!

We look forward to seeing you all back on April 20th.

Best wishes,

Angela Carpenter
