Whitehill Primary School & Nursery

The Decus Educational Trust

Weekly Bulletin: Friday 27th September 2024

Dear Parents, Carers & Families,

We were lucky enough to join many of our classes this week for their maths lessons. Lower down in the school the children were getting to grips with counting accurately, identifying larger and smaller numbers and ordering numbers by size. Further up the school, place value was being used to support operations of increasing complexity. In all lessons, the children listened well and could articulate their thinking - Well done everyone!

There was much excitement in our assemblies today as we announced the names of those who had been elected as Student Council Representatives. We applauded all of the children who had volunteered to do the role. It was very noble of them to want to help the wider school community - Well done!

2024-25 - Newly Elected Student Council

In our values assembly this week we explored being noble some more. Through the story of an indigenous American boy who had grown old enough to leave the tribe, we learnt the importance of being there for one another especially when scared. We reminded the children that they can rely upon the team in school if they are finding things difficult - they just need to tell and we will be there!

We are now looking for student’s to volunteer as school Ambassadors. This role will entail showing vetted visitors around the school and answering questions. There will be elections and interviews for these positions.

We are rapidly moving towards some opportunities where we can come together as a community in support of the children’s learning.

On Monday 30th September, at 09:15, the Parent Teacher Association are meeting at the school to discuss ways that they can raise funds and support the children of Whitehill Primary - everyone interested is welcome to come along.

Stay & Play - On Monday 7th October, the parents of Reception and Nursery children are invited to join them in school for part of a session. This will be an opportunity to observe how they have settled and to enjoy seeing them learn through play.

Reception parents are invited to attend between 14:30 and 15:30, Morning Nursery Parents are invited between 10:30 and 11:15 and Afternoon Nursery Parents are welcome between 14:15 and 15:00. Those parents of children who attend Nursery all day are welcome to attend either the morning or afternoon slot.

Class Teacher Presentations & Refreshments - On Wednesday 9th October, between 15:30 and 17:00, we are running information sessions with class teachers. The sessions will be held in the children’s classroom and be approximately 20 minutes long. Tea, coffee and cake will be on sale in the halls - all donations will go to school funds. There will be a 10 minute break between each session so that there will be ample time to move from class to class and listen to different teachers. This is a first for the school. If the event is successful, we will look to run more like it.

Year 6 Assembly - On Thursday 10th October, at 09:00, the parents of year 6 students are invited to attend a presentation delivered by our year 6 students which is a summation of this term’s learning. This event will last approximately 15 minutes and take place in the Key Stage 2 Hall.

Year 2 Assembly - On Thursday 10th October, at 09:30, the parents of year 2 students are invited to attend a presentation delivered by our year 2 students which is a summation of this term’s learning. This event will last approximately 15 minutes and take place in the Key Stage 2 Hall.

We look forward to having further events and assemblies. We will keep you informed as these come about.

Have a lovely week everyone.

Best wishes,

Angela Carpenter

Attendance Update

The foundations of learning are laid in the Primary years of schooling and so Whitehill Primary School is committed to making sure that our children do not miss out on the education and care that we offer. Regular attendance is critical if our pupils are to be happy, successful and benefit from the opportunities presented to them now and in the future.
Good attendance is fundamental to a successful and fulfilling school experience. We actively promote 100% attendance for all our pupils and we use a variety of rewards and incentives to promote good attendance and punctuality. Awards are group focused rather than given to individuals as we recognise that our students cannot help being absent for medical reasons.
Below, you can see this week's attendance data. The stars indicate the year groups who were awarded 5 minutes extra Green Time for topping everyone else's attendance:
